Skoda has unveiled a concept of its upcoming entry-level electric SUV concept named Epiq. It is one of the six pure electric vehicles (EV) the Czech carmaker is planning to introduce by the end of this decade. The Epiq is likely to take its final shape in 2025 with an international debut expected sometime next year.

At 4.1 metre in length, Skoda says the Epiq will cost around  25,000 Euros (approx. Rs 22.57 lakh) when launched in Europe. Based on Skoda’s new Modern Solid design philosophy— both outside and inside— it represents the next level of modernity.

Skoda Epiq concept: Exterior

As expected from any pre-production concept, most of the exterior highlights of Skoda Epiq appear as a concept which may not find place in the final production model. The nose is now sealed and the signature Skoda butterfly grille has been tweaked and repositioned to lower half of the front fascia. The vents house electrical devices like distance radar and front camera.

Called the Tech-Deck Face, the nose is flanked by bifunctional, T-shaped LED DRLs and indicators. The mail headlamp clusters are positioned lower on the front bumper which comes with a striking spoiler painted in a unique dark chrome shade. Their light modules have a cubist-inspired design and feature Matrix LED technology.

Side profile is highlighted by a distinct high, sweeping tornado line visually separating the greenhouse from the rest of the body. The squared wheel arches house aerodynamically optimised wheels. The low, gently sloping roof line merges into a roof spoiler for optimal aerodynamic efficiency. The rear also features a robust bumper and Å koda lettering in unique Dark Chrome on the tailgate.

Skoda Epiq concept: Interior

The Modern Solid theme is carried forward inside the cabin of the Epiq concept as well. It gets an open storage compartment housing a wireless mobile phone charger in the free-floating centre console. The 490-litre boot benefits from  bag hooks, cargo elements, fastening hooks and a hidden underfloor compartment.

Other visual highlights include a two-spoke steering wheel showcases the new Å koda lettering, physical buttons and haptic scroll wheels with flashy orange accents, a digital instrument console, and a large floating touchscreen infotainment display. The Epiq will also boast of mobile digital key that can be controlled via smartphone to perform a wide range of functions.

Skoda Epiq concept: Expected Powertrain

Skoda Epiq is expected to share the same all-electric powertrain as the Volkswagen ID.2 which is based on the modular electric drive platform (MEB) platform. Although the Skoda is yet to reveal specifics about the powertrain, the Epiq is expected to offer a range of around 400 km on a single charge. In all probability, it will only be offered as a front-wheel drive for better packaging.
