Honda has achieved a new milestone in the Indian passenger vehicle market. The Japanese auto giant has sold over 50,000 units of cars equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Honda attributes this to its global vision of “Safety for Everyone”. Honda has set itself a goal to achieve zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles by 2050.

Honda Sensing, Honda’s advanced ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) technology, was first introduced in India with the launch of the Honda City e:HEV in May 2022, the country’s first mainstream strong hybrid electric vehicle. Recognizing the increasing importance of safety, HCIL has progressively expanded its availability to other models.

Honda Sensing in India

The first model to benefit from the company’s ADAS was Honda City launched in March 2023, followed by Honda Elevate in September 2023, and most recently, the third-gen Amaze in December 2024. The all-new third generation Amaze is now the most affordable ADAS-equipped car in India, making this advanced safety technology more accessible to a broader range of customers.

As per current sales trend, ADAS equipped variants account for over 60%, 95% and 30% in sales of Elevate, City and Amaze respectively. Additionally, among customers who opted for ADAS-equipped models, one in every two chose the advanced safety technology as their primary reason for purchase. This highlights the increasing importance of safety in the decision-making process for Indian car buyers.

Honda became the first OEM in India to introduce ADAS in models with manual transmission with the City in 2023. Currently V, VX and ZX trims of Honda City, ZX trim of Honda Elevate and ZX trim of Honda Amaze are equipped with Honda Sensing in both MT and CVT derivatives. Further, Honda Sensing comes as a standard offering in City e:HEV.

What’s Honda Sensing?

Honda Sensing is an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that utilizes a high-performance front wide-view camera with an extended detection range to scan the road ahead. It accurately identifies road markings, boundaries, and various objects, including motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians, in both daylight and nighttime conditions.

The system enhances safety by alerting the driver to potential hazards, helping reduce accident risks, and, in some cases, intervening to prevent or minimize the impact of a collision. Key features of Honda Sensing include the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN), and Auto High-Beam (AHB).
