Toyota is gearing up to launch its most affordable SUV in India, the Urban Cruiser Taisor. The compact SUV coupe is essentially a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Fronx and the fifth vehicle from the two companies’ partnership after the Glanza, the erstwhile Urban Cruiser, Hyryder and the Rumion. With the Fronx continuing to sell like hotcakes and be one of the top best-selling vehicles in India, Toyota will be looking to the Taisor to boost its sales figures.

Toyota Taisor: What is it?

The Taisor will fill the void of the Urban Cruiser, which was based on the previous generation Vitara Brezza. In terms of design, the Taisor is expected to be identical to the Fronx apart from the front grille, the front and rear bumpers and maybe tweaked lights. Toyota could launch new paint schemes. The cabin layout remains the same with features like a 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, head-up display, a 360-degree camera, connected tech, Arkamy’s music system and automatic climate control.

Moving on to safety features, the top trims of the Taisor will get six airbags, ESP as standard and hill-hold assist control, all three-point seat belts, ISOFIX child seat mounts etc.

Toyota Taisor: Engine options

Like the Fronx, the Taisor is expected to offer both the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and the 1-litre turbo petrol. The mainstay will be the 1.2-litre which produces 88bhp and 113bhp and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT. Based on the Fronx ARAI figures, the Taisor manual should return around 21.79 kmpl and the AMT 22.89 kmpl. The turbo petrol, on the other hand, churns out 99bhp and 147.6 Nm and comes with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic torque converter with paddle shifters. The manual’s mileage should be in the region of 21.5 kmpl and the automatic 20.01 kmpl.
