Days after releasing official design sketches of the fourth-gen Superb, Skoda has officially taken the covers off its flagship sedan. In its latest avatar, the Superb gets some significant upgrades in features, design and mechanical specs. Internationally, it will also be available in a station wagon form.
2024 Skoda Superb: Updated design
The fourth-gen Skoda Superb gets a slightly revised yet recognisable butterfly front grille flanked by sleek LED Matrix beam headlights with integrated LED DRLs. The front bumper is redesigned which houses a wider and sleeker air dam, giving it a cleaner look. Although frog lamps have been given a miss. Side profile remains largely unchanged with a prominent shoulder line, barring the new alloy wheel design.
At the rear, the sedan gets sleeker LED taillights with crystalline elements, a redesigned boot lid and an Audi-inspired bumper. Despite being underpinned by the same MQB platform as the current Superb, the new-gen Superb will be 43 mm longer at 4912 mm and 12 mm taller at 1481 mm. The subtle changes in profile has resulted in aerodynamic improvements with a drag coefficient of 0.24 Cd.
2024 Skoda Superb: Revamped interiors
Stepping inside the cabin of the new-gen Skoda Superb, the sedan wears a completely different look with better quality and sustainable materials, an all-new 13-inch infotainment system, and customisable rotary dials. The Czech carmaker is offering the new Superb in as many as five interior colour schemes. In addition, there are two special shades reserved for the top-spec L&K trim.
The gear selector has been repositioned behind the steering column. As a result, more storage space has been liberated in the centre console. Further, all chrome elements in the interior have been replaced with the new Unique Dark Chrome trim. Increase in dimensions has resulted in more room for rear seat occupants. Further, boot capacity of the new Superb has increased by 20 litres to 645 litres.
The two-spoke steering wheel bears the new Škoda logo. The rear view mirror is now frameless and dims automatically.
2024 Skoda Superb: Features on offer
The new-gen Superb is loaded with all the bells and whistles such as a 10-inch digital instrument console with Skoda’s virtual assistant, touch-sensitive dials for the climate control, USB-C charging ports, ambient lighting, powered front seats with massage function, fast wireless charging, heads-up display, and an electric sunroof.
Safety package on offer includes features like 10 airbags, driver attention & drowsiness assist, intelligent park assist, traffic jam assist, and ADAS suite to name a few.
2024 Skoda Superb: Engine options
Globally Skoda will offer the new-gen Superb in as many as six engine options with outputs ranging from 150 hp (110 kW) to 265 hp (195 kW). Powertrain options include turbo petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid turbo petrol, and a plug-in hybrid turbo petrol unit. It will be on offer in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.
The plug-in hybrid version gets a 25.7kWh battery pack, with a maximum range of 100 km in all-electric mode and supports 50kW DC fast charging. However, the plug-in hybrid powertrain will be offered exclusively on the ‘Combi’ wagon version of the Superb. All engine options will be paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox as standard.
2024 Skoda Superb: Expected India launch
The fourth-gen Superb will go on sale in international markets early next year. While its India launch is not yet confirmed, we expect Skoda to bring its flagship sedan to the country towards the second half of next year as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) model. Upon its arrival, it will compete against Toyota Camry.
