Force Gurkha might not be as popular as its rivals but it is as capable, or maybe even more, where it matters. Like Mahindra Thar, the Gurkha is an exceptional off-roader and like the former, Force is developing its own version of a 5-door off-roading SUV. This elongated version has been in the works for quite some time now.
It has been spotted testing on the roads on several occasions, but there is no clear indication regarding its launch timeline. A test mule of the 5-door Gurkha was spied again recently. Like previous spy shots, the latest ones reveal a fully camouflaged test unit of Gurkha with an emission testing kit attached.
5-door Force Gurkha spied
The latest mule of Gurkha has reportedly been spied testing in Delhi. The 5-door Gurkha gets the exact same boxy profile as its 3-door sibling. While the current iteration of Gurkha measures 4116mm, the upcoming 5-door version is most likely to be longer. Rest of the visual details like the round headlamps, front grille with the Force logo at the centre and taillights are expected to be similar to the current model.
The prototype was spotted rolling on 5-spoke machine-cut alloy wheels. Also, it wore different taillights on each side. It also carried a snorkel which suggests that it will be a standard offering. However, it was missing a luggage rack on the roof. The tailgate housed a traditional spare wheel.
5-door Force Gurkha: Expected engine specs
As far as engine specs are concerned, the 5-door Gurkha is expected to be powered by the same 2.6-litre CRDi diesel engine as its 3-door sibling. In the latter, this engine kicks out 90 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque while being paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. A part-time 4×4 drivetrain with a low-range gearbox and locking differentials will be a standard offering.
