Talk about an audacious move. A video showed a person driving under the influence of alcohol forgot that his SUV was supposed to be driven on the tarmac, not the railway tracks. Believe it or not, this is a true incident. As a result of this inexplicable behaviour, a train was delayed by 30 minutes.
Breaking all rules: Creta takes the path less traveled
The Hyundai Creta is the class-leading mid-size SUV and has been in the news for the recent launch of its all-electric version. Unfortunately, Creta owners are infamously known for their intimidating driving tactics on the road. One such driver decided to do the unthinkable and take the SUV out for a drive on railway tracks. This incident took place at Bhanpur Railway Crossing in Gajraula, Amroha, Uttar Pradesh and the video was shared on YouTube by Nikhil Rana.
The video revealed that the driver may have taken a turn at the railway crossing and eventually came to a halt when the Creta with one half on the tracks and the other half on the pebbles. Railway authorities approached the driver, questioning him, but it was clear that the man behind the wheel was intoxicated and was unaware of his surroundings. The driver kept mumbling that the car was going at a high speed. The officials finally managed to convince the driver and the passengers to step out of the vehicle.
Rules against Drunk Driving
Under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act, a penalty for a first offence is up to Rs 10,000 and imprisonment is up to six months. Penalties for subsequent offences are fines of Rs 15,000 and imprisonment of up to two years. If someone is a repeat offender, their vehicle may be impounded, and their driving license could be revoked.
