Maruti Suzuki India, the country’s largest carmaker continues to benefit from expanding its SUV portfolio.
Despite a slowdown in the mass-market entry level passenger vehicle sales the carmaker is reaping benefits from demand for SUVs. In January 2024, the company sold 166,802 four-wheelers in the domestic market, which translates to a growth of 13 percent, versus 147,348 units for the same period last year.
If one looks at segment-wise performance the mini segment saw sales decline by 37 percent to 15,849 units, while compact segment witnessed an uptick of 3 percent to 76,533 units. This translates to a degrowth of 7 percent in the mini+compact segment.
The sales of Ciaz was down by 64 percent to 363 units versus 1,000 units last year.
On the other hand, the demand of SUVs almost doubled from 35,353 units in January 2024 to 62,038 units last month.
On the exports too it shipped 23,921 four-wheelers, up 37.5 percent, versus 17,393 units a year ago.
