China is the largest market for electric vehicles (EVs) in the world and is also the global production hub for battery-powered vehicles. However, until now, the Chinese market has concentrated on producing budget-friendly EVs for the mass-market. The Chinese homegrown EV brand recently set foot in the luxury EV space by unveiling ET9.
A coupe sedan, the ET9 was displayed a few days back at the company’s annual gathering in Xi’an Olympic Sports Centre Stadium. Reports suggest that deliveries of the ET9 will commence in the first quarter of 2025 onwards. It will be priced at USD 112,000 (equivalent to Rs 93.30 lakh) making it more expensive than Tesla Model S.
Nio ET9: Design & dimensions
With a sharply receding roofline, the ET9 carries the couple profile very smartly. The crossover sedan has a higher rising stance than typical sedans. The body panels don’t get any extravagant cuts and creases which give the car a simple and minimalist look. Up front, it gets a split lighting setup featuring sleek LED DRLs on top and vertical LED headlights.
The face and bumper are integrated into a single unit. The sloping bonnet with mild creases give the EV a distinctive look. Side profile also remains clean and understated with only major highlights being the side skirtings and massive 23-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels with red brake callipers adding contrast.
In terms of dimension, the ET9 is Nio’s largest offering till date measuring 5,325mm long, 2,016mm wide, and 1,620mm tall. Built on the largest version of NIO’s ET3 electric car platform, ET9 has a wheelbase of 3,250mm. It also offers a substantial ground clearance of 200mm.

Nio ET9: Powertrain specs
Powering the electric coupe sedan are two newly developed electric motors– a 340kW permanent magnet synchronous unit with SIC mounted on the rear axle and a 180kW induction motor placed at the front axle. The combined output from both these motors stands at around 700 horses. Electric energy is supplied by a swappable 120kW lithium-ion battery.
NIO ET9 is equipped with China’s first Full-Domain 900V Architecture, boasting the highest voltage of 925V, a charging peak power of 600kW, and a charging peak current of 765A. The 900V ultra-fast charging and swapping platform allows fast recharging after a 3-minute battery swap or extending the range by 255 km with a 5-minute charge.
