The three Jeep SUVs showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 are – Wrangler Unlimited, Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee SRT.
Jeep, the American luxury SUV maker, made its India debut today at the Auto Expo 2016. The three Jeep SUVs showcased at the Motor Show are – Wrangler Unlimited, Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee SRT. All the three products will be launched by mid 2016, a year that also marks the brand’s 75th anniversary.
While the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will be launched in both petrol and diesel versions, the Grand Cherokee SRT will get only a petrol powertrain – 6.4-litre HEMI V8 engine.
The petrol version of the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited features a 3.6-litre, V6 engine that is good for 275bhp and 359Nm. The diesel of the SUV is a 2.8-litre turbocharged unit that develops 197bhp and 451Nm. Both the powertrains come mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox.
Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, on the other hand, features a SRT 6.4-litre V8 engine coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. This engine is capable of churning out a massive 475bhp and 644Nm.
While initially, both the SUVs will be brought as completely built up units but the company might assemble it here via completely knocked down units at Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility. Though the company didn’t announced the pricing of its SUVs, we expect the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited to come at around Rs 25 lakh – Rs 30 lakh. While the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT could be priced at around Rs 75 lakh – Rs 80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
