Jaguar is working on all-electric XJ sedan that will roll out sometime in late 2018 or early 2019, according to a report at Autocar UK. The launch of the new Jaguar electric XJ will celebrate 50 years of the first XJ model. After the electrification of Jaguar XJ is done, it will take on the likes of Tesla Model S and the upcoming Porsche Mission E. The new Jaguar XJ is expected to share its components with the company’s I-Pace electric SUV that is currently in the final stages of its development. The Jaguar XJ is due for a major update since long and hence, the British automaker has decided to go the all-electric way with the car.  The upcoming electric Jaguar XJ is being developed with a new model that has been codenamed as the Road Rover. The Road Rover too will use an electric motor. The electric Jaguar XJ will not just be limited to the addition of an electric motor. The new electric Jaguar XJ will get cosmetic updates as well that should make the new model look significantly different from the existing one.

Reports on the internet also suggest that the new electric Jaguar XJ will make a shift from its existing four-door configuration to a five-door layout. With an electric shift scheduled to take place next year, it will be a bold move by Jaguar and it would be interesting to see how the enthusiasts and Jag fans respond to the company’s step. The company had earlier suggested that it will electrify its entire vehicle range after 2020.

As far as India launch is concerned, the new electric Jaguar XJ will make its way to the country in the coming years of its global debut. All thanks to the Government of India’s 2030 eco-friendly vision, manufacturers have started taking electric vehicles seriously. Having said that, Jaguar must also have some dedicated plans in store to meet Government’s strategy and we can see multiple eco-friendly vehicles rolling out with a Jaguar brand in the years to come.
