Stellantis has teased the upcoming second generation Compass ahead of its global debut later this year. The Dutch conglomerate has officially revealed that production for the next-gen Compass is set to commence this year in Melfi, Italy. The SUV will make its debut first in Europe this coming spring followed by other international markets.

The next-gen Compass was first teased in October last year and Stellantis has released four images of the vehicle in the latest teaser. In one of the images, the body is being dropped onto the chassis on the assembly line, signifying assembly of the pre-production prototypes are already underway.

2nd-gen Jeep Compass: Expected Design

The other images highlight the design details of the new Compass. For instance, the new Compass gets a reworked front seven-slat grille which is now illuminated. The grille is flanked by redesigned bi-LED projector rectangular headlamps integrated with LEDs on the top end. The clamshell bonnet gives the new-gen Compass a little more muscle to give the Compass a more brawny appearance.

Along the side profile, the most notable highlight has to be the black-out pillar, giving the flat roof a floating effect. The squared wheel arches are filled with 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels and wrapped with thick black plastic cladding enhancing its rugged appearance. There’s also the signature “Compass” branding near the front fender. At the rear, the taillights have been heavily reworked with new C-shaped LED elements and the “JEEP” branding attached to it.

Based on the new STLA Medium platform, the new Compass is expected to measure around 4,500 mm in length, which would make it approximately 100 mm longer. This should result in more space inside the cabin, especially for the second-row occupants.

2nd-gen Jeep Compass: Expected Powertrain

The STLA architecture has been designed to incorporate several types of powertrain including mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrain options. Selected variants will also be available with an all-wheel drive option. That said, Jeep and Stellantis are yet to confirm the exact powertrain specifications of the next-gen Compass.

2nd-gen Jeep Compass: Will it launch in India?

A few months back, it was reported that Stellantis has scrapped the plans for the second-gen Compass in India since the STLA Medium architecture didn’t meet the commercial viability for the market. With the Compass currently reporting only three-digital sales figures on a monthly basis, it is unlikely that Jeep will bring the second-gen model to India.

The current-gen Compass will continue to be available in the Indian market with small updates till the BS7 emission norms kick in which make it very difficult for diesel engines to survive. This means the Compass will survive for till 2027, post which its future in India looks gloomy. The current India-spec Compass is offered with a 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine that puts out 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque.
