2023 Hyundai i20 Vs i20 N Line differences explained

While the standard Hyundai i20 competes against the likes of Maruti Baleno, Tata Altroz, and Toyota Glanza; the i20 N Line doesn’t have a direct rival in India.

Hyundai i20 Vs i20 N Line

Hyundai launched the facelifted i20 earlier this month and followed it up with the updated i20 N Line within a span of two weeks. Earlier, differences between the two models were minimal. With this latest update, the Korean brand has provided a clearer demarcation between the two premium hatchback siblings.

Let us look at all the key differences between the facelifted avatars of the standard i20 and the sportier i20 N Line.

2023 Hyundai i20 Vs i20 N Line: Styling

While the overall design remains the same, both the standard i20 and the i20 N Line in their latest iteration have noticeable visual differences to tell them apart. For starters, i20 N Line gets the sportier treatments such as red accents on front and rear bumpers, door sills and red brake callipers. Both models roll on 16-inch alloy wheels but their design is different.

The N Line badging on the front grille and tailgate further amplify the differences between the two models. A closer look will tell you that in the facelifted i20, the Hyundai logo is now slapped on the bonnet while on the i20 N Line the logo remains on the grille. Another key difference is the presence of fog lamps of i20 N Line, while the standard i20 misses out on them.

2023 Hyundai i20 Vs i20 N Line: Interiors & features

Again, the overall cabin layout of both models are identical with the sportier cosmetic treatment in the N Line. For starters, the i20 N Line gets a three-spoke steering wheel with contrast red stitching, while the standard i20 gets a flat-bottom unit, although control buttons on both steering wheels are the same.

The standard i20 gets a dual-tone black/grey interior theme, as opposed to the all-black theme of the N Line. The latter’s cabin is spruced with red highlights around the console, door pads, gear-shift knob, carpet, etc. that provide a nice sporty contrast. In terms of features, both models come equipped with exactly the same set of features.

2023 Hyundai i20 Vs i20 N Line: Specs

The most noticeable difference between the standard i20 and the i20 N Line is under their hoods. In its facelifted form, i20 only comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which kicks out 82 bhp (87 bhp in AT) and 114 Nm of peak torque. This unit comes paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic gearbox. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol unit is not offered anymore.

On the other hand, i20 N Line gets a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor under its hood which kicks out 118 bhp and 172 Nm peak torque. This unit is available with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. Besides a more powerful engine, the i20 N Line also gets a louder and sportier exhaust note which lends it a distinct identity.

The i20 N Line further benefits from a stiffer suspension setup and tighter steering geometry for a more engaging and dynamic driving experience.

2023 Hyundai i20 Vs i20 N Line: Price

As expected, i20 N Line is a lot higher priced than its regular sibling. While the standard i20 is priced between Rs 6.99 lakh and Rs 11.16 lakh, the N Line derivative carries a price tag between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 12.32 lakh (all prices ex-showroom). This makes the base and top-spec variants of i20 N Line Rs 3 lakh and Rs 1.16 lakh more expensive than their respective counterpart variants of the facelifted i20.
