Triumph launched the Scrambler 400 X yesterday after it made its debut earlier in July this year. As its name suggests, the Scrambler is a purpose-built motorcycle which competes against the likes of Yezdi Scrambler and KTM Adventure 390.
The former is a like-to-like comparison with the Triumph, while the Adventure is a more off-road capable machine than Triumph. Nevertheless, all three motorcycles are built to perform a similar function, i.e., soft to mild off-roading. From the table given above, it is clear that Yezdi is the most compact of the three motorcycles in this comparison. Despite its compact proportions, Yezdi weighs 182 kg, just 4 kilos lighter than the Triumph which is the heaviest of the lot. KTM is the lightest in this comparison with a kerb weight of 177 kg.
All three models offer the same ground clearance of 200mm but the Yezdi offers the most accessible seat height of 800mm. The Triumph and KTM offer seat heights of 835 and 855mm, respectively.

Starting with the Triumph Scrambler 400X, the motorcycle gets USD forks, alloy wheels, 19-inch front and 17-inch rear tyres, monoshock at the rear, disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS that can be turned off, traction control, and a semi-digital instrument cluster. Triumph offers no phone connectivity but gets ride-by-wire throttle, anti-theft immobiliser, and USB-C charging port.
KTM 390 Adventure carries a similar suspension setup, however, the motorcycle is offered with alloy wheels or spoke wheels depending on the variant. Also on offer is adjustable front suspension with the top-spec SW variant. Other features on the 390 Adventure include a TFT display, traction control, cornering ABS, quickshifter, and dual-channel ABS.
Yezdi Scrambler comes equipped with a fully-digital instrument console, all-LED lighting, USB charging port, and three ABS modes– Road, Off road, and Rain. Among the three models, the Yezdi offers the most modest hardware setup consisting of conventional telescopic front forks, twin shock gas-charged absorbers, and wire-spoke wheels with tubed tyres.

Yezdi Scrambler is the smallest as far as engine displacement is concerned. As a result, it offers the lowest engine output. KTM offers the highest power output of 43 bhp from its 373cc mill while its torque output is comparable with the Scrambler 400X. All four models offer a 6-speed transmission.

Yezdi is by far the most affordable in this range with prices starting at Rs 2.12 lakh while KTM 390 Adventure is the priciest of the lot with prices starting at Rs 2.81 lakh, stretching up to Rs 3.61 lakh. Triumph, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 2.63 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
Therefore, Yezdi Scrambler and KTM 390 Adventure are two extreme ends in this spectrum while Triumph Scrambler 400 X perfectly bridges the gap between the two models, in terms of specs, features and prices.
