Although the Indian market has warmed up to performance in recent years, mileage still remains one of the most desired attributes for a vehicle buyer, especially for two-wheelers. With the growth of the 150-160cc category of sporty commuter motorcycles in the last few years, let us look at the top five most fuel efficient models in this space.

Honda SP160 / Unicorn – Mileage: 60-65 kmpl

Honda currently offers 2 models in the 150-160cc segment in the form of Unicorn and SP160. Both these models are powered by the same 162.7cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor. In Unicorn, this engine returns a mileage of 60 kmpl, while in SP160 it claims a fuel economy of 65 kmpl. Not only fuel efficiency, but SP 160 also offers a higher power output of 13.27 bhp as opposed to 12.73 bhp generated in Unicorn.

TVS Apache RTR 160 – Mileage: 60 kmpl

TVS continues to sell the older RTR 160 with a 2-valve head. This iteration is powered by a 159.7cc air-cooled motor that kicks out 15.82 bhp and 13.85 Nm of peak torque. TVS claims to offer a mileage of 60 kmpl in the Apache RTR 160. It is priced at Rs 1.20 lakh (ex-showroom).

Bajaj Pulsar N160 – Mileage: 51.6 kmpl

One of the most well-received new-gen Pulsar models, the N160 offers strong performance that goes with an impressive mileage figure of 51.6 kmpl (ARAI-rated). The Pulsar N160 is priced at  Rs 1.33 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hero Xtreme 160R – Mileage: 49 kmpl

Like TVS Apache, Hero also offers two iterations of the Xtreme 160R– with a 2-valve head and a 4-valve head. The former reportedly offers a fuel efficiency of 49 km per litre. It is powered by a 160cc, air-cooled engine that produces 15 bhp at 8,500rpm and 14Nm at 6,500rpm.

Bajaj Pulsar N150 – Mileage: 47.5 kmpl

Surprisingly, Pulsar N150 offers a lower claimed fuel efficiency than its larger and more powerful Pulsar N160. The new-gen 150cc Pulsar claims a fuel efficiency of 47 km per litre. A replacement of the Pulsar P150, the N150 is priced between Rs 1.18 lakh and Rs 1.33 lakh (both ex-showroom).
