A 1985 BMW R80 has received a rather special treatment from Ironwood Custom Motorcycles. Christened the ‘Mutant’, this R80 carries an exquisite vintage aesthetic along with a fierce outlook. The team at Amsterdam-based Ironwood transformed the motorcycle with a series of custom features. They shortened the front forks and installed a longer Hyperpro rear shock. A further enhancement on the design created the motorcycle’s dynamic, lean-forward effect. Other new features include the LED tail lamp, Brembo-sourced brakes as well as rear set foot pegs. In terms of style, the bike makes a statement with a vintage Zündapp tank and Shinko 270 Super Classic tyres.

Comfort has been taken care of by the Alcantara and leather seat, while it also adds a touch of contrast to the stainless steel exhaust and to the tank’s slightly muted green colour.

Power comes from a 797cc twin-cylinder boxer, four-stroke, air-cooled engine that produces 50 hp @ 6500 rpm, that is capable of propelling the motorcycle to 181 kph of top speed. The R80 weighs about 207 kg. It comes with a five-speed gearbox and disc brakes at the front.

The mix of vintage look and modern equipment has resulted in a transformation of the R80 into a poster perfect motorcycle, and considering the specifications and comfort, it should be able to fare well in terms of touring too.
