Riding motorcycles is not just meant for commutes but also a means to fulfil the desire to travel. Although motorcycling as a culture has been alive in our country for decades, only recently this culture has started flourishing across pan-India in smaller centres as well. However, safety while riding a two-wheeler is still neglected by most people.
A recent video which went viral on social media shows how a rider narrowly escaped death after her scarf got stuck in the bike’s chain. The rider named Sunita Manohar More, posted a video of the same on her Instagram handle which showcases the details of the incident.
While riding her Royal Enfield Meteor 350, the loose end of More’s dupatta (scarf) got stuck on the rear sprocket which started strangling her neck. Thankfully, she was able to bring her motorcycle to a halt cleanly without losing her balance. Pedestrians around were quick to react to the situation and came to her rescue.
After the stalling, the bike had to be rolled gently in order to free the scarf from the chain. The incident fortunately left a minor injury around More’s neck only. A slightly delayed reaction would have meant more force exerted on the neck which could have possibly led to asphyxiation.
For all women riders and pillion who wear Indian attire like sari, salwar, etc., it is always advised not to keep the loose end of the pallu or dupatta hanging below the knee level. It is very important that the length of a scarf should be shortened while onboard a two-wheeler. In this case, the small negligence on part of the rider not only endangered her life but also put the pillion’s life at stake.
