The much-awaited prices for the new R 1300 GS has been announced, and the flagship adventure motorcycle from BMW is priced at Rs 20.95 lakh onwards, ex-showroom. The motorcycle is available in a total of five variants, depending on the kit and equipment and deliveries for the same are set to commence later this month.
The BMW R 1300 GS is available in Light White, Triple Black 1, Triple Black 2, Trophy, and 719. The variants primarily differ in terms of equipment and electronics, and the Triple Black 2 gets the dynamic suspension that lowers itself when it comes to a halt. The top-spec 719 gets equipment such as milled levers and engine cases.
BMW says that the new 1300 GS has lost 12 kgs compared to the older 1250 GS, and one of the main areas the motorcycle has lost weight is in the gearbox area, where the company was able to save over 6 kgs. That said, being a flagship motorcycle in the segment, the GS gets a host of electronic aids and comfort features.
The biggest highlight of the new 1300 GS is the engine, which is a new 1300cc mill that makes 143bhp and 149Nm of torque, with the help of a new 6-speed gearbox with a bidirectional quickshifter. The engine continues to use the shift-cam technology and even runs a higher compression ratio compared to the S1000RR.
In the Indian market, the GS competes with the Honda Africa Twin, Ducati Multistrada V4 and the Triumph Tiger 1200, while in the global market, it competes with the KTM 1290 Adventure and the upcoming 1390 and 1490 models from the Austrian manufacturer.
