It is no secret that Ather Energy is working on a new affordable electric scooter that will sit below its existing lineup including the Rizta. A recent patent filed by the Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer reveals the design of the front cowl of the upcoming battery-powered scooter that houses the headlamp.

The image suggests a slightly squared headlamp cluster for the new Ather scooter which is completely new for the brand. This also indicates that the upcoming scooter will  look completely different from the existing scooters in the Ather lineup, even though the overall design of the scooter remains under wraps.

On a closer glance, we find the main headlamp is flanked by thin LED daytime running light (DRL) strips. The front shroud features a relatively flat profile, giving the scooter a modern and sporty look. The mounting points for the handlebars and their integration with the chassis are clearly visible. Notably, this will be the first Ather scooter to feature a headlight integrated into the handlebar shroud.

There are hardly any other details about this scooter yet. However, it is most likely to be built at Ather’s new upcoming manufacturing plant in Aurangabad announced a year ago. This new facility is expected to have a capacity of 1 million two-wheelers per year and will span 100 acres. The company plans to invest around Rs 2,000 crore in the facility, which will be built in phases. Surprisingly, Ather announced its third plant when its current facility in Hosur has only 30 percent of the total operating capacity.

Coming back to the scooter, the Rizta is currently the most affordable electric scooter in the Ather range which is priced at Rs 1.15 lakh (ex-showroom). With this upcoming model, Ather will try and price it within the Rs 1 lakh mark in order to tap into a new market. Given that this unnamed scooter will be a low-cost model, the equipment on the same will be more modest in comparison to Rizta and 450 series. We also expect lower levels of performance but not too much difference when it comes to range on a single charge.
