Bajaj Auto reinvented the Chetak scooter in late 2019, in a completely different avatar, running on electric power source. This also led to the creation of a separate business vertical called Urbanite dedicated towards future electric two-wheelers. After five years, the company has now launched a new-gen model of the Chetak electric scooter.
Although the Chetak remains largely unchanged visually, the electric scooter gets some significant updates over its predecessor, the most critical change being a new chassis. During the launch presentation of the new Chetak, we gained some insights about the company’s future developments.
New Bajaj electric two-wheeler platforms incoming
During the question and answer session, Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto, revealed that more EV platforms will be introduced in the next fiscal year. This means more new electric two-wheelers will be introduced by Bajaj in the coming months. However, Sharma refused to give any specific details regarding the form of these upcoming products barring the fact that they will run on a battery.
On being asked if Bajaj is looking at developing battery-powered motorcycles, Sharma responded indistinctly that there will be multiple new products to look out for in the coming year, without revealing any significant detail of any note.
