Hero launched the Xoom 160 maxiscooter at the beginning of this year, and after some delays, the company has officially started accepting bookings for the adventure-styled Hero Xoom 160. That said, deliveries are set to commence in August.
Hero Xoom 160 launch
The Hero Xoom 160 was launched at the Bharat Mobility Expo earlier this year, alongside the Hero Xtreme 250R and the Xoom 125. The Xoom 160 carries a price tag of Rs 1.49 lakh, and what makes the Xoom 160 stand out is its design and engine specifications.
Maxiscooters became a success in India with the launch of the Yamaha Aerox 155, which took a big step away from the traditional scooter design seen in India. The Yamaha maxiscooter featured a powerful liquid-cooled engine that added to its success.
Hero MotoCorp took the same route, making the Xoom 160 stand out with its adventure-styled design, large wheels, a tall visor, a large seat, and non-traditional scooter design.
Hero Xoom 160: Features and engine specifications
The Hero Xoom 160 gets telescopic front forks, dual rear shocks, 14-inch wheels, a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear, a digital instrument cluster, a smart key, and remote ignition amongst others.
Powering the Xoom 160 is a 156cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that makes 14.6bhp and 14Nm of peak torque with the help of a CVT gearbox. Hero has not revealed any acceleration figures for the Xoom, but expect it to be on par with the competition.
Speaking of competition, the Hero Xoom 160 primarily competes with the Yamaha Aerox 155, which shares similar engine specifications. Other competitors in the segment include the Aprilia SXR160, and the Suzuki Burgman, to an extent, in regards to its styling.
Also, when compared to the Yamaha Aerox 155, the Hero Xoom 160 carries more weight and tips the scale at 141kg, while the Aerox weighs 126kg. The extra weight will be a hindrance to the performance of the Hero Xoom 160.
