Auto Expo 2018 is likely to see the introduction of a whole new sedan by Toyota in India. After the launch of the Toyota Vios in South East Asian markets, the Japanese brand is now preparing to bring it to the Indian market as well. Toyota Vios is expected to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2018, and the sedan will be placed between Toyota Etios and Toyota Corolla Altis in the company’s product lineup. When launched in India, Toyota Vios will go up against Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The Thailand spec Toyota Vios is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and it is expected that the company might bring the sedan in two engine options- a 1.5-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engine. The 1.5-litre petrol engine develops 107 hp of power and 141Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 7-speed Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and manual gearbox.
Toyota is expected to introduce the petrol variant of the Vios in India first and then eventually also bring the diesel version. Dimensionally, as compared to Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz the Vios is shorter and measures 4420mm in length. However, the Vios is much wider than the Honda City, as it measures 1700mm in width, while the wheelbase of Vios stands at 2,550mm, which is lesser than Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

Toyota Vios will come equipped with features such as new projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, T-shaped grille, new fog lamps and will ride on 16 and 17-inch alloy wheels. As to compete with its rivals, Toyota Vios will get features such as touchscreen infotainment system, audio system with steering mounted controls, leather upholstery, automatic air conditioning and keyless entry.
As for India launch, Toyota might launch the Vios under Rs 10 lakh as Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is priced in the range between Rs 7.90 lakh to Rs 11.70 lakh. The Honda City is available at a price of Rs 8.70 lakh for a base variant to Rs 13.80 lakh for top trim.
