Elite i20, priced between Rs 6.1 and Rs 7.7 lakh, is the top selling model among Hyundai vehicles.
Hyundai Elite i20 was adjudged the Indian car of the year and Harley Davidson Street 750 won the award for Indian motorcycle of the year award at the 10th Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) and the 8th Indian Motorcycle of the Year (IMOTY) Awards in Mumbai.
This year, the final short list of contenders saw a dozen cars and motorcycles battling it out for the two of the Indian automobile industry’s highest honours. The chosen ones were then put through a further round of assessment by the jury members on December 4. After a session of evaluation followed by voting, the top three contenders in each category turned out to be the Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Honda City and the Harley-Davidson Street 750, KTM RC 390 and the Suzuki Gixxer respectively. The nominated cars and motorcycles were judged on various parameters such as price, fuel economy, styling, comfort, safety, performance, practicality, technical innovation, value for money and suitability for Indian riding conditions.
Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Chairman & Managing Director, JK Tyre & Industries Limited and Bob Rupani, Chairman ICOTY 2015 and Aspi Bhathena, Chairman, IMOTY 2015, presented the Indian Car of the Year trophy to the team of Hyundai Motor India Ltd and the Indian Motorcycle of the Year trophy to the Harley-Davidson Street 750 on behalf of the esteemed jury of IMOTY 2015.
Every year, representatives from leading automobile magazines in India constitute the jury of ICOTY and IMOTY. The ICOTY award is in line with international standards and modelled on the American Car of the Year, European Car of the Year and Japanese Car of the Year.
The award ceremony witnessed the presence of eminent guests, including scions of the corporate world, senior officials from the auto industry and representatives of industrial bodies.
Hyundai has reported a sales figure of 10,500 for Elite i20 this November. The car, priced between Rs 6.1 and Rs 7.7 lakh, is the top selling model among Hyundai vehicles. The starting price of Harley Davidson Street 750 is Rs. 4.3 lakh.
