After making its inaugural race last year, MotoGP will not return to India this year, as per reports by Motorsport.com. MotoGP was organised in India for the first time last year at the Budh International Circuit, as part of the promoter’s plans to expand into the South Asian region. However, it now stands cancelled, and Kazakhstan will host the race in September.
As per reports, the issue is that the Indian promoter, Fairstreet Sports, has not paid up dues to Dorna and other vendors. The uncertainty of MotoGP not returning to India has loomed over the last few months and with a tight 2024 schedule, the hic-up in India has given way to Kazakhstan to host the race.Â
Reports say that Dorna had given Fairstreet time till May 20 to catch up with payments after earlier delays. It now seems certain that the IndianGP will no longer happen and the September 20-22 slot has been redirected to the Sokol International Racetrack.Â
This is not the first time a motorsport event has been taken off the calendar in India, as Formula 1 exited India after a few appearances and so did Formula E.
