As the fifth stage of the 2024 Dakar Rally concludes, the Honda factory team is showing its dominance with Pablo Quintanilla taking the stage win in the motorcycle class, while defending champion Nasser Al-Attiyah takes his first stage victory.

The 118km special stage saw competitors tackle the dunes and the Chilean came out on top, followed by Honda rider Adrien Van Beveren in second and ex-champion Toby Price in third. This has helped all three riders gain overall timings, however, the Kalahari Ferrari is the man to beat this year.

Hero MotoSports rider Roass Branch finished stage 5 in sixth, enough to put him as the leader in the overall standings with a little over a minute lead from Honda rider Nacho Cornejo. In third is another Honda, Ricky Brabec with a little over three minutes difference from Branch.

In the four-wheeler category, it was the Qatari who took the stage victory, being his first this year and his 48th stage win in his career. The battle was tough through the dunes and the stage saw Al-Attiyah edge past Toyota drivers Guerlain Chicherit and Juan Cruz Yacopini.

In the overall standings, Saudi crowd favourite Yazeed Al Rajhi leads, followed by Nasser Al-Attiyah nine minutes behind him, while WRC legend Carlos Sainz Sr is in third, with a gap of 11 minutes over Al Rajhi.
