Royal Enfield modification makes up a flourishing industry in itself. RE riders seem quite fond of customising their motorcycles and India now has has some custom houses that are producing neat custom builds. However, at times the hand behind the pencil on a drawing board goes over the top, resulting in a what-the-hey or an I-can't-believe-that-actually-turned-out-to-be-great. Here's five of them. You be the judge which category they belong to.
-
Asura: Literal translation of its name would be a demon but Maratha Motorcycles have also given it a spooky face to go with that name. Based on Royal Enfield's tried and adored 500cc engine, the Ausra clearly displays a cruiser appeal that should be rather comfortable. It's got a giant 240 section at the rear and the exhaust has been tweaked so it could sound distinct as well.
-
Parakram: Two things that catch your attention – it looks rather big and the paint job. Based on a Royal Enfield Thunderbird, Parakram has too much going on it but who's to say how much bling is too much bling – if you like bling. The design inspiration perhaps comes from Suzuki Intruder with a big headlamp cluster and a seemingly relaxed riding style.
-
Royal Indian: People have a soft corner for Royal Enfield motorcycles and if you can't afford one, you can simply make your 100cc commuter look like a Bullet. The look complete with a round headlamp, seat style, and spoke wheels make it look like a little Bullet but with a blacked out 100cc engine so you get about 90 km to a litre. So, there you go you've got the appeal and zeal, and it's thrifty too.
-
Destiny Angel: This would be Beyonce if it were called Destiny's Child. Based on a Royal Enfield Thunderbird, the Angel has a glass fuel tank which the builder says will not affect its practicality whatsoever for it is highly-tempered. But it would be quite a heart-stopping moment if things do go sideways – or the bike does.

Two Smoking Barrels: Right, onto the real deal. This makes it to the list not because it has something uncanny going on about it. But it is so over the top and we love it. Based on a Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, it has had its engine bored out to 750cc and it's got NOS. It is about 10 kg lighter than the stock bike and a straight through twin exhaust system. No wonder ‘Two Smoking Barrels’ took gold at the Punks Peak hill climb at Wheels and Waves. Also read: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Road Test Review: Royal Enfield now has exactly what it needed
