The world is going through a time never before experienced by any generation – a lockdown of this scale caused by novel coronavirus has forced people in their homes and out of their workplaces. Recent analysis predict that lifestyles will changes in the post lockdown scenario and so could preferences. A lot of such studies suggest that alternate powertrain will be welcome so we may be looking at electric mobility catching on, once life and business resume normal service. But before that we already have some neat examples of what electrification can look like.

The Charging Bullet: We came across the Charging Bullet about a year ago and it was indeed a great example of what electric conversion can mean for an iconic motorcycle. It is fitted with a DC motor that puts out 11.4 hp and it will do about 64-80 km on one full charge. The Charging Bullet weighs as much as a traditional Bullet 350 and is capable of 80 km/h of cruising speeds. The price of these conversions quoted last year in March was GBP 5,000 (approximately Rs 4.55 lakh). (In photo: The creator Fred Spaven with his creation – the Charging Bullet – at Land’s End)

Volta: Even before Fred introduced the Charging Bullet, James Hammarhead built an all-electric motorcycle based on a Royal Enfield Bullet 500 some 10 years ago. The Volta uses “BLDC 3-phase permanent magnet brushless motors”. These have a 10KW (13.4 hp) continuous output with a 30KW (40 hp) peak. That's a big jump over the Bullet's 18 ponies. Top speed is 120 km/h, with a range of 80 km. (Photo: Bikeexif)

Photon: Royal Enfield has mentioned working on an all-electric motorcycle but we haven't seen much development on the subject yet. In order to give you a sneek peak of what to expect from the all-electric Royal Enfield, here's Photon. A Bullet powered by a Newtown-based Electric Classic Cars battery. It makes about 15.6 bhp. Electric Classic Cars have revealed a torque figure, but a similar 14Kw hub motor claims ‘more than 300Nm.’ Range is claimed at 128 km and it'll do a top speed of 112 km/h. (Photo: Peter Henshaw)

Right, rewind to December 2017 when a set of pictures did rounds on the Internet of an all-electric Bullet. The pictures were said to have been taken in Bangkok, Thailand. Not much is known about this electric conversion and whether it was commissioned by Royal Enfield or was it a mod-job by a custom house in Bangkok. The point is though that the idea of an electric Bullet is intriguing to many. (Photo: Rushlane)

And now about an electric conversion of a car that is as iconic as the Royal Enfield Bullet in India. Earlier this month, DC Design unveiled a rendering of what an all-electric Ambassador can look like. DC2 have not revealed much about the specifications of the car except that it is intended to be all electric. Called the e-Amby, it is quite like the hot-rod Amby concept showcased by DC about a decade ago at the 2008 Auto Expo.
