Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi, has announced that it will showcase its EV technology at the Stride launch event on December 28. The smartphone maker announced in 2021 that it would launch an electric vehicle in 2024, and an EV prototype has been spied testing in China.
At the upcoming event, Xiaomi is not expected to reveal an electric vehicle or launch one but is expected to showcase its EV technology only. The company’s CEO, Lei Jun, took to social media to announce the event, and in a later tweet mentioned that the technology will redefine the automotive segment as a whole, with “automotive, consumer electronics, and smart ecosystems.”
Earlier, Xiaomi’s electric car, codenamed Modena, was spied testing in extremely cold conditions, while the company got the approval of China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) to build electric vehicles. The company also made an announcement earlier, saying it will invest $10 billion (Rs 82,700 crore) towards the automotive sector over the next 10 years.
The Xiaomi Modena test mule spied testing earlier reveals very few details about the car, as it shows that it is a sedan with a sporty stance, while its LiDAR sensors on the roof hint at autonomous driving functions. The company is expected to launch its first car in 2024 and plans to mass-produce them.
