Ather Energy is working on a new family electric scooter. A test unit of possibly the same was recently spied on the streets of Bengaluru. This new unnamed scooter will be making its debut next year. This has been confirmed by company CEO and Co-Founder, Tarun Mehta, on his social media profile.

In an X (formerly Twitter) post, Mehta confirmed the development of a family electric scooter which is “designed with your entire family in mind, offering comfort, ample size, and a whole lot more”. However, Mehta also confirmed that this scooter will only be launched in 2024.
Despite coming with a premium price tag, Mehta revealed in this tweet this “new iteration is set to be the absolute pinnacle of refined performance.” He further added that the upcoming electric scooter will be loaded with “best-in-class features” and will be worthy of the premium price tag.”
Sharing a few details about the upcoming model, Mehtra conceded that the e-scooter will be an “evolution of the 450 series”. This indicates that it is most likely to be a new generation model based on the present 450 range. It should be noted that the Bengaluru-based EV startup recently homologated two new scooters in India – 450X HR and 450S HR. These are based on 450 Series of scooters with HR suffix.
Recently, Mehta shared another post on his X handle featuring a partial image of an upcoming Ather electric scooter with transparent panels. The upcoming model will be called Series 2 and is expected to be a special edition model of the upcoming new-gen 450X. As of now, it is unclear whether the upcoming will carry the same specs as the current Gen3 450X or offer something different.
Ather offered significant updates to the 450X earlier in October this year which now comes with two battery options– 2.9kWh and 3.7kWh. Besides hardware and cosmetic upgrades, we feel the upcoming range of Ather 450 e-scooter is expected to receive significant software upgrades in the battery management system, which can lead to better thermal efficiency and improved range.
