On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off 200 electric DEVi buses in Delhi, marking a significant stride toward zero-emission public transport under the Green Viksit Bharat mission. The launch event, held at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park, reflected a dual commitment—sustainable mobility and ecological awareness. The electric buses, deployed by PMI Electro Mobility, will operate on 30 designated green routes across the capital, promoting cleaner and more efficient transportation options for urban commuters.

In a symbolic gesture under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, the Prime Minister also planted a Banyan sapling, reinforcing his emphasis on biodiversity, climate resilience, and the urgent need for environmental stewardship. The initiative is not only about greening urban spaces but also about cultivating a mindset of care and responsibility toward nature. The flag-off of PMI’s buses was a visible embodiment of that philosophy—mobilizing both technology and community action for a cleaner tomorrow.

PMI distributes seed cards, encourages citizen participation

In support of the Prime Minister’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, PMI Electro also launched a citizen-centric campaign by distributing 10,000 eco-friendly seed cards containing Basil and Wildflower seeds. Designed for easy planting, these biodegradable cards are expected to germinate within two weeks. Citizens were encouraged to plant the seeds at home, share selfies, and tag PMI’s LinkedIn page to inspire wider community engagement.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Aanchal Jain, CEO of PMI Electro Mobility, said, “It is a moment of immense honour for us to have our electric buses launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Our efforts are deeply rooted in his vision for a sustainable and Green Viksit Bharat. These buses are already helping reduce emissions across India, and with today’s launch, we reaffirm our dedication to green innovation.”

With the addition of these 200 buses, PMI’s nationwide fleet now exceeds 2,500 electric buses across 31 cities. These vehicles are expected to cut more than 250,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually, adding up to over 3 million metric tons throughout their service life.
