Xiaomi YU7 has managed to disrupt the world of electric vehicles by receiving around 3.16 lakh bookings in the first 72 hours since its launch. Pronounced as ‘YU’ or ‘u’, it means riding in the wind from a Chinese term. The YU7 competes directly against Tesla’s Model Y, which was launched in China in January this year.
The same made-in-China Model Y will also be sold in India via a direct import route. The YU7 is the second electric vehicle from Xiaomi after the EV sedan, the SU7, which was launched last year. The Chinese automaker’s electric SUV is priced lower than the Model Y, but how does it compare in terms of battery specs and driving range? Let’s take a closer look.
Xiaomi YU7 vs Tesla Model Y: Specifications
The Xiaomi YU7 is offered in three variants: Standard, Pro, and Max. Both the Standard and Pro models are equipped with a 96.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, with the Standard variant delivering a CLTC range of 835 km and the Pro offering 770 km. The Pro features an all-wheel-drive setup with dual motors producing a combined output of 365 kW (490 hp) and 690 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.27 seconds. The Standard version has a single rear motor generating 235 kW (315 hp) and 528 Nm, with a 0-100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds.
The top-tier YU7 Max variant comes with a larger 101.7 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery and dual motors producing a total of 508 kW (681 hp) and 866 Nm of torque. It offers a CLTC range of 760 km, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.23 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 253 km/h.
All variants support rapid DC charging, with the LFP battery versions charging from 10% to 80% in about 12 to 21 minutes, while the Max variant can add up to 620 km of range in 15 minutes on a high-power charger

The YU7 Standard variant is powered by a single rear motor delivering 235 kW (315 bhp) and 528 Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.88 seconds, according to Xiaomi. The Pro variant features an all-wheel-drive setup, with the front motor producing 174 bhp and 185 Nm, while the rear motor generates 315 bhp and 505 Nm. Combined, the Pro offers a total output of 489 bhp and 690 Nm of torque, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.27 seconds and reach a top speed of 240 kmph. The 96.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery can be charged from 0 to 80% in just 21 minutes using a DC fast charger.
The Max’s front motor makes 295 bhp with 338 Nm and 386 bhp with 528 Nm for the rear motor. It has a total output of 681 bhp and 866 Nm of torque. It has a top speed of 253 kmph and does 0 – 100 kmph in 3.23 seconds.
Elon Musk’s electric company offers the Model Y in two variants — Rear-wheel-drive and All-wheel-drive. The former has a range of 466 km WLTP and the latter a range of 466 km WLTP. The RWD does 0 – 100 km in 5.9 seconds and can be supercharged for 15 minutes to provide a range of up to 216 km. The rear motor has an output of around 295 kmph.
The Model Y Long Range all-wheel-drive version gets two motors. The front makes around 184 bhp, and the rear churns out 260 bhp with a total output of around 443 bhp. It does 0 – 100 kmph in 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 201 kmph and a range of 551 km WLTP.
Xiaomi YU7 vs Tesla Model Y: Price War
The Model Y’s price range starts from 263,500 Yuan (Rs 31.50 lakh approx), exactly 10,000 Yuan more than the YU7 standard model. The top-of-the-line Model Y Long Range all-wheel-drive costs 313,500 Yuan (Rs 37.47 lakh roughly). Xiaomi has priced the standard YU7 SUV from 253,500 Yuan (Rs 30.30 lakh approx) while the YU7 Pro and YU7 Max are priced at 279,900 Yuan (Rs 33.46 lakh) and 329,900 Yuan (Rs 39.45 lakh) respectively
