Mahindra is all set to unveil a new platform on August 15, which will be the base for petrol, diesel, and electric vehicles. To be called the New Flexible Architecture (NFA), this new architecture will be built in the company’s factory in Chakan. With the introduction of the new platform, one question arises — will it underpin the Thar EV?

Mahindra Thar EV

Mahindra is working on an all-electric Thar and the prototype was showcased back in 2023 at the brand’s FutureScape event in South Africa, along with the Scorpio Pickup concept. The Thar EV, called the Thar.e concept, was based on the Inglo platform, which currently underpins the BE 6 and XEV 9e.

It is not clear is Mahindra could change the platform of the all-electric Thar to the new one, as the NFA will be capable of housing two and four-wheel-drive powertrains. That said, Mahindra has had a slew of new product launches in recent times and the company plans to launch seven ICE vehicles and five electric vehicles by 2030, and one of them will be the Thar EV.

Speaking about the platform launch on August 15, Mahindra’s Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra’s Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors, clarified, “This is a platform vision, not a product launch. It marks the introduction of a new platform and the concepts and products that will emerge from it.”

As of now, we have limited details and one thing we can say is that the Thar EV will be available in two and four-wheel-drive versions. More details will be known on August 15, so stay tuned.
