Within first month of its launch, the Tata Tiago has become the home-grown carmaker’s top-selling model thanks to the great value-for-money proposition it offers. In April 2016, Tata Motors sold a total of 3,022 units of the hatchback thus beating the Indica+Vista by a margin of over 1300 units. Having said that, the vehicle still could not come close to its closest rival Maruti Celerio which sold over 8500 units in the month.

For people not in the know, the Tata Tiago was launched in the price range of Rs 3.2 lakh – Rs 4.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). At this price, the vehicle undercut Maruti Celerio that’s priced between Rs 4.0 lakh – Rs 5.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Thanks to the response Tata Motors has received for the Tiago, the company saw an year-on-year increase of 2.2 per cent in its sales.

With over 1 lakh enquiries that the company received for the Tiago in April 2016, we hope to see even better numbers in May 2016. The Tiago is available in two new engines – 1.2-litre Revotron petrol (84bhp, 114Nm) and a 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel (69bhp, 140Nm) – mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Besides the decent power output figures, both the engines are highly frugal too. While the petrol engine is claimed to return an ARAI-certified mileage of 23.84kmpl, the diesel mill offers 27.28kmpl.

The Tata Tiago is based on the carmaker’s all-new design philosophy IMPACT, which will be used for other upcoming Tata products as well including the Kite 5 based sub-4 metre sedan. Similar to the Zest and the Bolt, the Tiago too has been designed taking inputs from the company’s three design studios – UK, Itlay and India.

Since the vehicle was launched at an introductory price range, we might see an increase in its price in coming months.
