Mahindra is set to launch the highly anticipated off-roader, the Thar 5-door. The unveiling of the SUV is slated for August 15. The Thar 5-door Armada will be enhanced with premium features from Mahindra’s flagship, the XUV700. It will compete with the Force Gurkha 5-door, Maruti Suzuki Jimny, and even its sibling, the Scorpio N. Here are the expected features of the Thar 5-door.

Mahindra Thar 5-door: Bigger infotainment system

The new Thar 5-door will get a 10.25-inch infotainment system, which will be the largest in its segment barring the Scorpio N. This will be a massive upgrade from the current Thar 3-door that gets a 7-inch touchscreen unit. The new infotainment system gets navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mahindra-connected tech, AdrenoX Connect.

Mahindra Thar 5-door: All-digital instrument cluster

Going by the theme on the new Mahindra vehicles, the new Thar 5-door will sport an all-digital driver’s console. Unlike the Scorpio N’s semi-digital instrument cluster, the Thar 5-door will be borrowing the console from the XUV700. The current Thar 3-door gets the traditional twin analogue dials for the rev meter and the speedometer with a TFT multi-information display.

Mahindra Thar 5-door: Airbags

Mahindra is expected to improve its safety and offer six airbags with the new Thar 5-door as a standard feature. The current Thar comes standard with two airbags. The 3-door version has received a 4-star safety rating by Global NCAP. It scored 4 stars for the safety of both adult and child occupants.

Mahindra Thar 5-door: ADAS

With Mahindra working overtime to update the Scorpio N with ADAS for its overseas markets like Australia, the Indian auto company is expected to equip the new 5-door Thar with ADAS. The XUV700 was the first vehicle in its segment to introduce Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and the same will be available with the new Thar. The ADAS suite will include Smart Pilot Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Sign Recognition etc.

Mahindra Thar 5-door: Dual-zone climate control

Not many may remember, but in 2019 when Mahindra launched the XUV300, it was the first compact SUV to get a dual-zone climate control. Come 2024, the XUV700, the electric XUV400 and the 3X0 all get this feature and the new 5-door Thar is also expected to come with it. The advantage of dual-zone climate control is that the driver and the passenger can set different temperatures according to their needs.
