Nissan has been promising to give the X-trail a touch-up or two for some time now, and so far we haven’t even gotten eyes on it. That is up until now. Nissan has unveiled the touched up India bound 2017 X-trail. And we have to admit, we like what we see. Even though it’s just a cosmetic and kit upgrade, it’s exactly what the doctor order for the now slightly dated, X-trail.
On the outside, the X-trail gets an entirely redesigned bumper and Nissan’s signature V-motion grille –although it is now larger — and merges neatly into the freshly designed headlamps. The freshly designed headlamps now feature the signature boomerang- shaped DRLs and an Adaptive Front-lighting system to boot. The circular imprint fog lamps have been replaced with rectangular ones. Overall, the side remains the same with an added chrome strip on the plastic moulds at the bottom, you know, for bling. The biggest cosmetic update to the tail is the full-LED tail light clusters which keep the new X-trail fresh.
In terms of creature comforts, the 2017 Nissan X-Trail will get a few updates like a Bose audio system — which will grace only the top trim — vented seats for the front and rear passengers. There will also be a flat-bottomed steering wheel. It also gets the motion activated electronic boot and perhaps most importantly Nissan’s autonomous driving system, that offers up to Level 2 autonomy. That’s a fancy way of saying that the car can accelerate, brake and steer within the confines of a single lane on highways during traffic congestions, and highway cruising?
The X-Trail is expected to hit the ground in the sub-continent between the end of this year and early next year. The model that we will get will be sold only as a hybrid, which uses Nissan’s FF Hybrid System which has a 1,997cc, inline-4 petrol motor making 142 hp and 200 Nm of torque, assisted by a 40 hp/160Nm RM31 electric motor.
