Nissan India MD: No shutdown, no layoffs, new launches on the way

Nissan India is set to launch the B-MPV in the first quarter of 2026, followed by the C-SUV in mid-2026. However, neither model will be offered with a diesel engine option.

Nissan Motor India crushes all India exit rumours by stating that they are not going anywhere and all their domestic and export plans are still very much in play. At a media briefing, Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, clearly said, “Nissan is not going anywhere. We are staying in India.” He explained, irrespective of what’s happening with Nissan in the global market, the company’s investment plans are on track, and the pre-production of the two upcoming vehicles has already begun. Vatsa squashed all talks about Nissan leaving India as incorrect news.

No change in strategy: Nissan MD India

Ever since Nissan India announced selling its 51% stake in their Indian joint venture, Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Ltd (RNAIPL), to its French partner.  Nissan said RNAIPL will continue to manufacture Magnite, but, unfortunately, this only stoked the exit talks. Vatsa reiterated, “Nissan is here to stay in India”. The proof is in the pudding, and the Nissan India MD further explained that there are no changes in the domestic strategy. This is the reason why the Japanese manufacturer has invested $700 million in the Indian market, along with a $1.8 million investment by the Renault-Nissan Alliance. He said, “There are no changes in domestic strategies and there are no plans for job cuts.”

Nissan aims to roll out 100,000 units for the domestic market and another 100,000 vehicles for export for the calendar 2026-27.

Two new vehicles in 2026

Nissan confirmed that there’s no delay in the launch of the new 7-seater B-MPV and the C-SUV 5 seater in 2026. Vatsa said, “The B-MPV will be launched in Q1 2026, while the C-SUV will make its debut in mid-2026.” He clarified that both products will be priced at par with the competition. “Based on the size, features and powertrain, the new Nissan products will be money-for-value,” he said.

Even though leading C-segment SUVs continue to offer diesel options like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, Nissan has no plans to reintroduce this engine trim for the Indian market. Vasta categorically explained, “ We can offer a diesel powertrain, but it will be very expensive for the customers. Also, for a daily city commute, one doesn’t really need a diesel-powered SUV.

In 2027, Nissan will be entering the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700 segment as it will launch a seven-seater C-SUV.
