The Swift has been much like a prodigal son for Maruti Suzuki for almost two decades now as one of its primary breadwinners for the carmaker in India. An all-new version of Swift is about to launch today which will get subtle styling updates, some additional features, and a brand new engine.

The fourth-gen Swift has already hit international markets like Japan and the United Kingdom before hitting the Indian roads. Bookings for the new Swift commenced earlier this month at a token amount of Rs 11,000. Ahead of market launch, let us look at all we know so far about the new-gen Maruti Swift.

New-gen Maruti Swift: Design

The overall exterior styling of the new-gen Swift is similar to the current model since the design of Swift has been one of its biggest USPs. That said, it gets subtle cosmetic changes over the outgoing model. For starters, it gets a new all-black octagonal grille with honeycomb mesh inserts and gloss-black surrounds. It gets a new clamshell bonnet whereas front and rear bumpers are slightly reprofiled.

The top-spec variants will roll on 15-inch dual-tone machine-cut alloy wheels, whereas the lower trims will make do with 14-inch steel rims. Headlamp cluster looks a little sharper with LED DRLs for the top-spec trim. Taillight clusters are completely redesigned with new C-shaped internals. Moreover, the rear-door handles will now move to a conventional place underneath the window panel.

New-gen Maruti Swift: Interiors & features

The new-gen Swift is likely to receive a dual-tone cabin for the top-spec variant and all-black cabin for other variants. The dashboard layout will be revised housing new AC vents and a 9-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment display. It will continue with the semi-digital instrument console but with a revised coloured MID which is expected to pack more information.

Other novel features expected to be part of the package include a six-speaker Arkamys audio system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 360-degree parking camera with dashcam support, cruise control, powered ORVMs, automatic climate control, steering-mounted buttons, and push-button start/stop.

New-gen Maruti Swift: Powertrain specs

The biggest change in the fourth-gen Swift will be the all-new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z-series petrol mill replacing the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder, K12 dual-jet petrol unit. Codenamed Z12E, this new 3-cylinder motor is likely to come with a mild hybrid setup as standard across all variants. This unit is likely to churn out 81 bhp and 112 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties will be carried out by a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox.
