Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to launch two special models in India on the same day next month. The German luxury marque has announced that it will launch the CLE Cabriolet and the GLC 43 4Matic Coupe on August 8. The former is an all-new convertible model whereas the latter is making its return to the Indian market in an updated form.
Both models will arrive as full imports and Mercedes denotes them as TEVs (Top End Vehicles). The upcoming models are part of the six new launches from Mercedes lined up for the remainder of 2024.
Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet: What to expect?
Based on the Mercedes’ Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform, the CLE Cabriolet shares its underpinnings with the current C-class and the upcoming E-Class. Its design draws inspiration from the E-Class coupe, featuring a striking front end and a sophisticated silhouette. Inside, the cabin mirrors the C-Class’s luxurious and tech-laden layout, with a driver-focused cockpit and a spacious 2+2 seating configuration.
Under the hood, expect powerful petrol engines paired with mild-hybrid technology. While specific details for the Indian market are awaited, the global lineup offers a range of options, including a 2.0-litre four-cylinder and a 3.0-litre six-cylinder. All variants feature a 48V mild-hybrid setup delivering an additional 22 bhp and 200 Nm via an electric motor mounted on the 9-speed torque
Mercedes is likely to introduce the convertible in two variants– the CLE 300 4Matic or CLE 450 4Matic variants to India. Being a CBU, we expect the price tag to exceed Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom) mark. It locks its horns with the BMW Z4 M40i in India.
Mercedes-Benz GLC 43 4Matic Coupe: What to expect?
Unveiled in September last year, Mercedes-Benz has completely revamped the GLC 43 Coupe. Gone is the previous generation’s six-cylinder engine, replaced by a potent 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged unit paired with a mild-hybrid technology. This setup generates an impressive 416 bhp and 500 Nm of torque, propelling the SUV from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.7 seconds.
Transmission duties are carried out by a 9-speed automatic gearbox sending power to all four wheels. The GLC 43 Coupe wears its AMG badge proudly with aggressive styling elements including a distinctive grille, sporty bumpers, and quad exhaust tips. Inside, the cabin combines luxury with performance, featuring AMG-specific sports seats, steering wheel, and digital displays. Expected to command a premium price tag of over a crore rupees, the GLC 43 Coupe will rival the likes of the BMW X3 M40i.
