The made-in-India Suzuki Fronx has received a one-star safety rating in crash tests conducted by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), after a rear seatbelt failure was recorded during testing — an issue the safety agency described as “rare and serious”.
Why did the failure occur?
According to ANCAP, the failure occurred during a crash test involving rear-seat occupants, raising significant concerns over passenger safety. The organisation said it has formally notified vehicle safety regulators in both Australia and New Zealand about the result.
ANCAP said the one-star rating reflects the Fronx’s overall crash performance, particularly weaknesses in the vehicle’s structure and restraint systems. The rear seatbelt failure had a material impact on the model’s adult and child occupant protection scores, the report added.
Fronx sales in Australia
Around 1,500 units of the Fronx have been sold in Australia, while approximately 1,100 units are on the road in New Zealand since launch. The Fronx sold in Australia and New Zealand is manufactured in India as part of Suzuki’s export programme. The model is also shipped to several other international markets, including South Africa, Japan, Indonesia and the Middle East.
