Kia Carens Clavis EV: Exterior

As seen in the spy images and teasers previously, the Clavis EV looks almost identical to its combustion-powered sibling since they are essentially based on the same platform. However, it gets distinct touches such as exclusive badging and newly designed aero-optimized alloy wheels.

Up front, it sports a set of triple-pod LED headlamps housed in a sharp triangular enclosure, sleek LED DRLs, and a sealed-off grille. Further, the nose now houses the charging flap. The rear end as well is identical with L-shaped LED taillamps connected by a thin LED strip across the tailgate.

On the safety front, the Clavis EV is expected to offer Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), featuring adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, high beam assist, and driver attention warning.

Additional safety enhancements may include a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), dual-camera dash cam, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and a blind-view monitor integrated into the instrument cluster. The Clavis EV will also support advanced EV-specific technologies such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging, enhancing its overall practicality and functionality.

Kia Carens Clavis EV: Powertrain & Charging details

Kia Carens Clavis EV borrows underpinnings from the Hyundai Creta Electric and hence shares the same powertrain as the latter. The Clavis EV is offered with two battery packs: 42kWh and 51.4kWh. The former returns a single-charge range of 404 km whereas the latter promises a 490 km on a single charge (both ARAI).

The smaller battery is paired with an electric motor that kicks out 99 kW (132 bhp) whereas the larger unit is paired with a more powerful motor that delivers 126 kW (169 bhp). Torque outputs for both versions remain the same at 255 Nm. Further, the Carens Calvis EV comes equipped with four levels of regenerative braking including intelligent Auto Mode and i-Pedal technology via the paddle shifters.

Kia will offer home charging solutions with support for 7.4kW and 11kW AC charging options with the Clavis EV. Further, the battery can be rejuvenated from 10% to 80% in just 39 minutes using a 100kW DC fast charger.
