After a long anticipation, Maruti launched the Jimny in India in June 2023 in a 5-door format. The original Suzuki Jimny sold in Japan and Europe was available in a three-door format. Even now, the Japanese market gets the three-door iteration of the subcompact off-roader. However, this will change soon as the five-door Jimny is set to the roads in Japan.
According to a recent report in a Japanese online portal, Suzuki will launch the 5-door Jimny in Japan in the next few days and as we all know, the 5-door Jimny is manufactured only in India. The report says this 5-door Jimny will be called “Jimny NOMADE”. An image of the 5-door Jimny has been leaked on the internet.
5-door Suzuki Jimny in Japan
The latest spy image shows a 5-door Jimny wrapped in a dual-tone Sizzling Red Metallic with black roof with NOMADE plate hung over the front bumper. This will be the second made-in-India Suzuki to reach Japanese soil after the Fronx was launched last year. Reports indicate that the first shipment of the 5-door Jimny has already reached Japan and will break cover in a couple of days on January 30.
For reference, the 3-door Jimny is built at Suzuki’s Kosai-based plant. On the other hand, the 5-door Jimny is made in Maruti’s Gurgaon-based manufacturing facility. Bookings for Jimny NOMADE in Japan have already begun. The Japan-spec model won’t be a lot different from the India-spec 5-door Jimny. Besides the different badging, rest of the vehicle is expected to be identical to the India-spec model.
Powering the Suzuki Jimny NOMADE will be a 1.5-litre K15B naturally aspirated petrol engine which kicks out 102 bhp and 137 Nm of peak torque. This motor is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Power is transferred to all four wheels via a low-range transfer. More details of the Suzuki Jimny NOMADE are expected to come out when it is officially released in Japan.
