With the luxury car market booming in India, it has been speculated for a long time that Hyundai Motor Group will bring the Genesis brand of vehicles to the country. In fact, some test mules of Genesis were reportedly spotted on Indian roads a few months back. There is more evidence now that Genesis could come to our shores.
The luxury arm of the South Korean auto major filed a patent for the Genesis GV80 and GV80 coupe in India a while back. While the choice of a coupe SUV is debatable, the fact that regular GV80 was spotted testing in India makes the former a strong contender for the Indian market.
While the patent for the regular GV80 was filed in April this year, the one for its coupe sibling was filed earlier this month. Hyundai hasn’t officially confirmed the introduction of Genesis brand in India and it could well be an IP protection exercise.
