Europe-spec Citroen C3 Aircross breaks cover in ICE, EV powertrains

The Europe-spec Citroen C3 Aircross is based on a different Smart Car Platform, unlike the India-spec model which is underpinned by the CMP architecture.

Citroen has unveiled the new C3 Aircross for the European markets. This iteration of the mid-size SUV looks very distinct from the India-spec model which made its debut last year. More importantly, it will be available in both petrol and fully-electric powertrains. It is slated to go on sale across Europe later this year.

Europe-spec Citroen C3 Aircross: Different design

The biggest difference between the Europe-spec and India-spec models surely is the exterior design. While the India-spec C3 Aircross gets a more curvaceous styling, its European counterpart employs more creases, making the SUV look bolder. Adding sharpness to the design is a brand new front fascia, a sealed-off nose with Citroen’s new logo at the centre.

A sleek outlet for the radiator grille underlying the nose, is flanked by redesigned C-shaped headlamp clusters housing tri-LED projector lights and multiple LED DRLs. The heavily reprofiled front bumper houses a large air dam which gets the same pattern as Citroen’s double-chevron insignia. The faux bash plate and prominent cuts gives the SUV a beefy appearance and a stronger stance.

That said, the Europe-spec C3 Aircross gets a very similar boxy silhouette as its Indian cousin with tall pillar and flat roofline, albeit new alloy wheels. The rear end is largely similar, barring the chevron pattern on the tailgate and bumper, complemented by the Citroen double-chevron logo.

Europe-spec Citroen C3 Aircross: Same interiors?

Citroen has yet to reveal images of the C3 Aircross’ interiors, although we expect it to be more feature-rich and modern than the India-spec model. Moreover, the Europe-spec C3 Aircross is significantly longer at 4.39 metres as compared to the India-spec version which measures 4.32 metre. This should translate to better interior space, especially for the third row.

Europe-spec Citroen C3 Aircross: Powertrains

The French carmaker hasn’t revealed any specific powertrain options for the C3 Aircross but has confirmed that it will be available in both petrol and EV guises. The petrol version is expected to get the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine as its counterpart but with a 48V mild-hybrid powertrain. This could result in higher output as well fuel efficiency.

The all-electric version of the C3 Aircross is expected to borrow the 44kWh battery from the smaller eC3 that can support up to 100 kW DC fast charging. Like C3 and eC3, the Europe-spec C3 Aircross is based on Citroën’s ‘Smart Car Platform’.
