Mercedes Benz will kick start its 2024 campaign in India by launching the facelifted GLS. The updated flagship SUV made its global debut in April this year and will now make its India debut on January 8. Prices for the updated three-row SUV will reportedly be announced at the end of the brand’s Annual Press Conference 2024.
The refreshed GLS is expected to receive cosmetic and feature upgrades. Although not confirmed, the GLS facelift is expected to be priced Rs 1.50 crore (ex-showroom).
Mercedes Benz GLS facelift: Expected updates
The most prominent styling update on the exterior is the revised front grille which houses four new horizontal louvres finished in Silver Shadow finish. The grille is flanked by restyled headlamps with updated internals. Additionally, a new front bumper with air inlet grilles and high-gloss black surrounds, and new tail-lamps that get three horizontal block patterns, forming a new motif.
Inside the cabin, the large luxury SUV is likely to witness more changes. For starters, it is expected to be offered an upgraded MBUX infotainment system embedded in the centrally mounted touchscreen infotainment system and the driver’s instrument cluster. The MBUX setup is now available in three variants namely Classic, Sporty, and Discreet.
The updated GLS will offer two new upholstery options– Catalana Brown and Bahia Brown. It also comes equipped with a Parking Package that comprises a permanent low-speed 360-degree camera and an off-road mode with multiple camera viewpoints surrounding the vehicle.
Mercedes Benz GLS facelift: Same powertrain
The German marque is expected to carry forward the same powertrain options as the outgoing GLS. This means the 2024 GLS will be powered by either a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine or a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel mill. Both engine options will come mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox which sends power to all four wheels via Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive system.
Upon launch, the updated Mercedes Benz GLS will rival other luxury flagship SUVs like BMW X7, Audi Q8, Volvo XC90, and Land Rover Discovery.
