The fourth generation Suzuki Swift recently made its maiden appearance at the latest edition of the Tokyo Motor Show. The new Swift will feature numerous cosmetic, feature and powertrain upgrades over the previous model. Even after staying in the market for almost 18 years, the Swift continues to pull a significant number of buyers to Arena showrooms on a monthly basis.
Ahead of its launch in India, Maruti Suzuki— the Indian arm of the Japanese automobile brand has started testing the upcoming hatchback in our country. A fully camouflaged test unit of the new-gen Swift was recently clicked undergoing trial runs in Goa. Although completely wrapped, the test unit reveals some noticeable visual updates.
2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift spied: Styling updates
The latest set of spy images reveal the new-gen Swift will carry forward the same silhouette as the current model. Noticeable visual updates include a reworked front fascia featuring an all-new blacked-out grille with mesh-like inserts. The front bumper is reprofiled housing a slim air dam with a chrome trim. Another significant change is the new SUV-like flat clamshell bonnet on the upcoming Swift.
The headlights are sleeker and feature a new L-shaped LED DRL. The Suzuki logo has been repositioned just above the grille, and the bonnet is reshaped slightly. The hatchback rides on new blacked-out alloy wheels– possibly 16-inch units and the rear door handles are repositioned to a more conventional spot under the window sills.
At the rear, the LED taillights get a new pixelated treatment while the tailgate looks sportier. The rear bumper too has been reprofiled. There are no images of the interiors as of now but we expect the layout to be in the line with the present-gen Marutis like Baleno, Brezza, etc.
2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift spied: Expected engine specs
As for powertrain, the international-spec Swift is likely to feature a 1.4-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 48V hybrid system. The India-spec Swift, however, could get a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine, codenamed the Z12, which will replace the current 1.2-litre four-cylinder unit that makes 89 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque.
Besides a 5-speed manual gearbox, this motor could also be paired with a CVT automatic gearbox as an option. Maruti is also likely to launch a CNG derivative of this powertrain with the new-gen Swift. Expect the upcoming Maruti Swift to hit the Indian market sometime in the second half of next year with a price tag starting around Rs 6.00 lakh (ex-showroom).
