Yamaha has unveiled the R3 and the MT03 in India. Taking full advantage of the MotoGP fever, the Racing Blue brand has taken the covers off its sports bike siblings at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, which is hosting the inaugural edition of MotoGP Bharat or Grand Prix of India.
Both bikes have been speculated to launch in India for a long time now but there hasn’t been any concrete update regarding the same. While Yamaha is yet to announce an official launch date of the motorcycle pairs, they have revealed both the bikes in their entirety.
Yamaha R3, MT-03 unveiled
The R3 mimics the larger super sports from Yamaha like R7 and R1 with a fully-faired body and an aggressive riding stance courtesy of low-set clip ons and rear-set footpegs. The front face features a Similarly the MT-03 borrows its styling elements from MT-07 and MT-09 including a twin-LED headlamp setup nestled within a chunky apron.

Similarly the MT-03 borrows its styling bits from the larger nakeds like MT-07 and MT-09 with a traditional muscular profile and a beefy stance. Like its super sport sibling, the MT-03 gets a sporty riding stance with but unlike the R3, the riding ergonomics is slightly more comfortable thanks to higher straight-line handlebar.
Yamaha R3, MT-03 specs
Both the fully-faired R3 and the naked MT-03 are powered by a common 321cc liquid-cooled 2-cylinder engine producing 41.4 bhp and 29.6 Nm of peak torque. The motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slip and assist clutch.
The motorcycles also share the same hardware with a suspension setup comprising KYB upside-down front forks (130mm travel) and a rear mono-shock (125mm travel). Braking duties are handled by a 298mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc aided by a dual-channel ABS. Feature list on both bikes include dual LED headlamps, LED indicators and LCD instrument cluster.
Upon launch, the R3 will compete against the likes of TVS Apache RR 310, BMW G 310 RR, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and KTM RC 390. On the other hand, the MT-03 will lock horns with the TVS Apache RTR 310 R, BMW G 310 R and KTM 390 Duke. Expect the R3 to be priced around Rs 3 lakh (ex-showroom), while the MT-03 could undercut the former by around Rs 20,000.
