Triumph is focused on India, that is for certain. It has been at the core of their success in the sub-continent. Their holistic approach tackling all facets of the ownership experience, matched with the fact that they have invested in manufacturing the bikes locally has been the magic mix that has kept them just ahead of the rest of the premium segment motorcycles. Having launched the Bonneville SpeedMaster in India today, just 5 months after it was launched globally. Triumph will continue their product offensive as early as next month with the 2018 Tigers. That is correct, Tigers. As opposed to previous reports on the internet that indicated that Triumph India would launch the two Tiger ADVs separately. The news broke while we were speaking to MD, Triumph India Vimal Sumbly who said “We strengthened our brand in the custom roadster(Triumph Bonneville Bobber) segment earlier, today we have added a cruiser (Bonneville Speedmaster). Now we will bring adventure bikes to India, there will be a launch maybe next month, you will see two new bikes on two new platforms, both 800 and 1200cc”
“The 2018 Tigers represent the new generation adventure touring, at the rate we are growing in India especially , we expect the new bike to even further our portfolio strength in the country.”He added.
The Big 2018 Triumph 1200 now loses the Explorer moniker, and will now just be known as the Tiger 1200. We are yet to ride it but from what we hear there’s a lot to be excited about. In Fact the new 2018 Triumph Tiger 1200 will get new adaptive cornering lights, all-LED lights, an adjustable full-colour TFT screen, like the one on the Triumph Street Triple RS, illuminated switchgear, new riding modes and hill-hold control across the mid and top-spec variants. There is also integrated braking system available in a few variants, cornering ABS, shift assist, keyless ignition and an updated cruise control. We expect the base variant of the 1200 to be priced somewhere at the Rs 17 lakh mark while the range topping XR is likely to cost around 21 lakh.
The smaller Tiger 800 also get LED headlamps new and new LED DRLs. The windscreen which was affixed earlier now gets a 5-step adjustability and also feature what Triumph is calling Aero Deflectors. However the base Tiger 800 will only get standard headlamp with incandescent bulbs like the previous bike. Overall, Triumph say they have change more than 200 parts on the 2018 bike, which means there’s a huge chance that it will be tremendous to ride.
