The ongoing calendar year witnessed plenty of two-wheeler launches, especially in the electric vehicle (EV) segment. Not only scooters, but multiple electric motorcycles were also launched this year. Here’s a look at the most prominent battery-powered two-wheelers launched in the country in 2023.

TVS X

TVS launched its flagship electric two-wheeler in the form of X in August this year. Based on the Creon concept showcased at Auto Expo 2016, the electric scooter is priced at Rs 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most premium scooter to be manufactured in India. While deliveries of the e-scooter were supposed to commence from November onwards, there are no solid updates regarding the same.

Powered by a 11kW electric motor which derives energy from a 4.44 kWh battery pack, the X is capable of clocking a top speed of 105 kmph while 0-40 kmph can be done in 2.6 seconds. TVS is yet to reveal an exact range for the electric scooter.

Orxa Mantis

First showcased as a concept back at the India Bike Week 2019, Orxa Energies launched the production-spec Mantis in November this year. Priced at Rs 3.60 lakh (ex-showroom), the Mantis gets a 8.9kWh battery pack which claims an IDC range of 221 km on a single charge. As for performance, it can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 8.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 135 kmph. The battery pack can be charged from 0 to 80% in 2.5 hours using a 3.3kW fast charger.

Ola S1 X

Ola Electric launched its most affordable offering— S1 X— earlier in August this year. Priced at Rs 89,999 (ex-showroom, including FAME II subsidy). It comes with two battery options– 2 kWh and 3 kWh— that offer single-charge range of 85 km and 90 km, respectively. Ola S1X gets a hub-mounted motor and the base variant can accelerate from 0 to 40 kmph in 4.1 seconds while the two higher-spec versions can do the same in 3.3 seconds.

Oben Rorr

Unveiled last year, Oben Rorr was officially launched in July this year at Rs 1.50 lakh (ex-showroom) in an updated avatar. Powered by an 8.8kW PMS motor which dishes 330 Nm of peak torque, this motorcycle can accelerate from 0 to 40 kmph in 3 seconds and top speed of 100 kmph. Equipped with a 4.4 kWh battery pack, it offers a claimed IDC range of 187 km on a single charge.

Kinetic Zulu

Kinetic Green, the electric vehicle (EV) arm of Kinetic launched its brand new Zulu electric scooter in the market earlier this month. Priced at an introductory Rs 94,990 (ex-showroom, Mumbai, inclusive of FAME II) for the standard battery pack, Kinetic will launch a variant with an oil-cooled battery setup at a later date.

Simple Dot One

Bengaluru-based Simple Energies launched a new entry-level scooter in the form of Dot One earlier in December this year. Priced at Rs 1.0 lakh (ex-showroom), the Dot One is powered by an 8.5 kW electric motor that dishes out 72 Nm of peak torque. As for performance, the scooter goes from 0 to 40 kmph in just 2.77 seconds while top speed is rated at 105 kmph.

The motor derives its energy from a 3.7 kWh battery pack that claims a single-charge range of 151 km. It gets a 35-litre boot which comes with a USB charging port.
