2024 was an exciting year for the Indian automotive industry, especially for the electric vehicle segment which witnessed significant growth across all segments, especially in the two-wheeler space. According to the Vahan portal, this segment has emerged as a top performer, recording retail sales of 52,440 units in 2024 and encouraging more consumers to embrace e-mobility. 

The introduction of the PM E-Drive schemes last year has further fueled this momentum, fostering more technological innovations in this segment by many upcoming startups. At the same time legacy two-wheeler manufacturers have scaled up their operations seeing a ride in demand for electric scooters.

Ola Electric maintained its dominance with 4,07,547 units sold in the last calendar year followed by TVS which sold 2,20,472 units of the iQube electric scooter in 2024. Bajaj held on to the third spot 1,93,439 units registered under the Vahan portal last year. Meanwhile, Ather Energy continues to dominate the southern regions of India with a market share of 25 percent in the electric two-wheeler. Moreover, Ather also overtook Ola in the 1st week of January 2025 registrations as per Vahan data.

Bajaj Chetak 35 Series

The all-electric Bajaj Chetak received a generation upgrade last month with the launch of the 35 Series. It is now available in two variants—  Chetak 3501 and 3502. With a range of up to 153 km on a single charge and priced between Rs 1.20 lakh and Rs 1.27 lakh (ex-showroom), the Chetak now offers a more premium experience with more features on offer like a 5-inch TFT touchscreen instrument panel, Bluetooth connectivity, in-built navigation, document storage, music playback, USB charging port, etc.

Equipped with a 3.5 kWh battery pack, it powers a hub-based 4 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor, delivering a top speed of 73 kmph. With its combination of nostalgic design and modern technology, the Chetak is redefining electric commuting.

TVS iQube electric ST 5.1

In May this year, TVS introduced a more advanced top-spec version of the iQube ST, featuring a larger 5.1 kWh battery pack. Priced at ₹1.85 lakh (ex-showroom), this variant boasts a claimed range of 150 km on a single charge and a top speed of 82 km/h. The iQube ST 5.1 comes equipped with a 7-inch full-color TFT touchscreen, over 118 connected features, Alexa voice assistance, digital document storage, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Ather Rizta

In April this year, Ather introduced its new family-oriented scooter, the Rizta, with a starting price of Rs 1.10 lakh (ex-showroom). Designed to cater to the practical needs of the average Indian family, the Rizta is available with two battery options: a 2.9 kWh unit offering a range of 123 km and a 3.7 kWh unit providing a range of 160 km on a single charge.

One of Rizta’s standout features is its impressive 56 liters of luggage capacity, comprising a 35-liter underseat storage and a 22-liter front glove compartment. The scooter can achieve a top speed of 80 km/h and offers two ride modes: Zip and SmartEco.

Ather 450X

Ather 450 X continues to turn heads with its performance and overall build quality. At a starting price of Rs 1.47 lakh (ex-showroom), this sleek and futuristic ride is powered by a high-performance 6.4 kW motor, delivering an impressive speed of 90 kmph and a practical range of up to 161 km (3.7 kWh battery pack) on a single charge.

The 450X recently got an upgrade where a host of features such as Google Maps, Alexa voice assist, Magic Twist throttle, traction control, a new Rally mode, and new tyres were added to the equipment, which makes it an even more enticing option to consider.

Ola S1 Pro

Despite all controversies surrounding the brand and its products, the Ola S1 Pro continues to be the benchmark for features in electric scooters. Priced at Rs 1.35 lakh (ex-showroom), this powerful scooter is equipped with a 4 kWh Li-ion battery and an impressive peak power of 11 kW and peak torque of 58 Nm. It offers a top speed of 120 kmph and a riding range of 195 km on a full charge.

The S1 Pro Gen 2 comes equipped with front and rear disc brakes and conveninece features such as a touchscreen information display, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, music playback with speakers, cruise control, hill hold, full LED illumination, to name a few.
