The new Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is the latest entrant in the segment, rivalling some big names such as the Triumph Speed 400 and the most potent motorcycle in the segment, the KTM 390 Duke, which has been the benchmark for performance and handling since its launch a decade ago. Ironically, the new NS400Z carries the same Rs 1.85 lakh price tag as the 390 Duke when it was first launched.

Now, since both motorcycles are street nakeds with similar engine capacities, let’s take a look at how they compare against each other in terms of specifications and the features they offer.

The Duke also gets ride-by-wire, and the electronics suite is vast. It gets traction control, lean-sensitive ABS, ride modes, ABS modes, and launch control, amongst others. The Duke also gets phone connectivity and navigation.

The KTM’s handling is sharp | Image: Express Drives

This is easy. If budget is a constraint, the NS400Z is the obvious choice as it offers all the basics with good power and handling characteristics. It is not as heavy as a Dominar 400 and feels much lighter on its feet. However, if you want the best in the segment, it has to be the new 390 Duke.

The KTM 390 Duke offers a comprehensive set of electronic aids, that coupled with its potent performance and telepathic handling, makes the Austrian machine desirable. If it was my money, it would be the 390 Duke any day.
