Honda to establish electric motorcycle manufacture plant by 2028

Honda stepped into the electric two-wheeler space with the launch of Activa e and QC1 in November last year. While many would consider Honda to be late to the party, the Japanese auto giant believes it is taking a measured approach when it comes to adoption of battery-powered mobility.

In the latest business briefing held today, Honda revealed its new strategy for electric two-wheelers. The biggest takeaway was the establishment of Honda’s new electric two-wheeler manufacturing plant set to be established in India by 2028. This will help Honda offer more affordable electric two-wheeler models to its wide Indian consumers.

Honda hasn’t divulged any details regarding this upcoming manufacturing plant but the company says it will strive to capture the largest market share in India’s electric two-wheeler segment. This new facility is expected to come up near its existing Narsapura plant in Karnataka where the Active e and QC1 are currently produced.

Honda will continue to launch products and build an efficient supply system for both ICE and electric models, effectively capturing growing demand for motorcycles. As a result, in the long term, Honda two-wheeler business, including both ICE and electric models, will establish a solid profit base with a global market share of 50% and an ROI of more than 15% as of FY2031.

The development at this point is very primitive at this point of time. Express Drives reached out to Honda Two-Wheelers India for a comment on this development but it is yet to revert on this.
